The problem we kept hitting

Every one of us has walked out of an interview knowing the answer we should have given. Not because we did not know the material — because recall under adrenaline is a different skill from competence, and only one of them is being hired for.

The people it hurts most are the ones with the least room for a bad forty-five minutes: career switchers, engineers interviewing in their third language, parents doing a loop between school runs, anyone whose last interview was six years ago. Confidence is not evenly distributed, and interviews quietly reward it.

What we decided to build

Not an answer machine. AcePilot works from your resume and the job description, so what it puts on screen is your own experience with a shape around it — the point, the evidence, the number. It will not invent a job you did not have, and it deliberately hands you beats rather than a script, because reading a paragraph aloud sounds exactly like reading a paragraph aloud.

It is a desktop application rather than a browser tab for one reason: a tab cannot stay off a shared screen, and a tool you have to hide is a tool you cannot use.

What we will not do

• We do not store your audio. It is processed in the moment and never written down.
• We do not train on you. Your transcripts, resume and job descriptions are not training data, ours or anyone else's.
• We do not join your calls. No bot, no participant, no calendar access, no meeting API.
• We do not sell a free tier that reads your data. You pay us money; that is the whole business model.

Where we stand on the hard question

People ask whether this is cheating, and we would rather answer it than route around it. Our position is that interviews test recall under pressure, and pressure is not the skill anyone is hiring for. But many employers publish rules for their process and some prohibit outside assistance. Read them, and decide for yourself — we would rather say that plainly than pretend the question does not exist. Our acceptable use policy sets out where we draw our own line.
